Welcome  to  The  Balanced  Body  Shoppe

Rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit with a relaxing and healing massage therapy session in Greenville, South Carolina

Massage has been proven over the centuries to induce relaxation and to combat chronic stress and pain.  It is also used to cleanse the body of waste products, help certain injuries heal faster, relieve muscle soreness or stiffness and treat a variety of secondary pain symptoms such as headache, low back pain or tensing of otherwise  healthy muscles to protect an injury.   While not a substitute for medical treatment, it has been used in conjunction with chiropractic, psychological counseling, physical therapy and other medical therapies to speed healing.

Our therapists use a range of massage techniques that improve circulation, detoxify the body, relieve tension, improve digestion, enhance muscle tone, and increase mental alertness. Massage not only benefits the body; it benefits the mind as well.  Research shows that the body produces seratonin (the body's natural pain reliever) during a massage.

Experience mental and spiritual healing as your mind releases stress and worry.  Many people come away with a  renewed sense of energy and emotional well-being.

We also offer corporate chair massage to help promote wellness in the workplace.

How Does Massage Work?

Massage stretches muscles and     connective tissues while improving blood flow to the heart and lymph flow throughout the body.  The removal of metabolic waste by massage allows more oxygen and vital nutrients to reach cells and tissues, which promotes the body's innate healing mechanisms.  Massage stimulates or calms the nervous system to help it self regulate.  It decreases inflammation by increased circulation.

Certain techniques of massage are helpful in reducing the formation of scar tissues in new injuries and making old scar tissue more pliable or even lessening the scar tissue.  Massage to joints stimulates the secretion of natural lubricants, increases circulation and is often effective in relieving joint pain.  It can be used as a preventive to injury by keeping the muscles and tissues more pliable and flexible while releasing restrictions BEFORE they cause an injury.

Both the athlete and the sedentary person can benefit from massage for these reasons.

Choosing A Therapist

The State of South Carolina requires all massage therapists to be licensed and to display their license.

Therapists at The Balanced Body Shoppe are further required to maintain their National Certification, which means that they must take more continuing education than a therapist who simply passes the exam and then allows their certification to lapse.  This voluntary certification is currently the highest credential available.  You deserve and want to be assured that your therapist is a professional.  Keeping this certification current assures you that she cares to give only the best to her clients.

Never hesitate to ask to see a therapist's credentials and look at the expiration dates to help you determine your therapist's credentials.

While we encourage clients to receive massage therapy from all of our therapists, we understand if you want to see only one therapist if she is available.

The benefits of working with only one therapist include allowing you and the therapist to develop a more in-depth working relationship.

Working with  multiple therapists allows you to experience a wider range of modalities and techniques.  It also allows you to schedule appointments with less advance notice.

Some clients love the variety while others like the continuity of one (or perhaps 2) therapists.  The choice is always yours.
